The Happy Valley Cultural Center was established in 2000 as an activity of the Happy Valley Foundation, and is dedicated to the support and encouragement of international and intercultural understanding. The Cultural Center provides a venue for all the arts as well as for dialogues on social and scientific issues that will be of interest to the community at large and that will introduce the students of the Besant Hill School to diversity in both traditional and non-traditional spheres of human endeavor.

In 1972, Rosalind Rajagopal and the renowned potter Beatrice Wood laid the foundation for a Cultural Center when they constructed residences and an artist's studio on Happy Valley land. The Logan House, built by Rosalind, was designed to serve as a site for small meetings and small retreats. Beatrice Wood's home and studio, with a folk art collection, art library, and permanent collection of her ceramics now provide a center for exhibitions and workshops. |
By 1998, the generosity of Happy Valley supporters made possible the construction of the 150 seat Zalk Theater. In addition to housing Happy Valley School (now called the Besant Hill School) productions in music and drama, the theater has been the venue of dance, music, theatrical performances, and lecture series under the auspices of the Happy Valley Cultural Center for the benefit of Besant Hill School students and the wider community.
